Partners
The Library Development Program is a national concern. Everybody who can contribute to the implementation is welcome to cooperate. Library Development Program implementing institutions are open to collaboration with all entities engaged in the idea of popularizing the access to knowledge and information through modern technologies. Our partners can be non-governmental organizations, central and local government, business organizations, private businesses and the media.
The Book Institute
The Book Institute (Instytut Książki) is a national cultural institution established by the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Poland. It was initiated in January 2004 in Kraków. The main goals of the Institute are to shape readership attitudes and popularize books and readership in Poland, as well as to promote Polish literature all over the world. The Institute is responsible for the implementation of the library program „Library +”, initiated by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage
On June 20, 2008, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the Polish-American Freedom Foundation signed a cooperation agreement concerning national programs to modernize and support public libraries.
The Ministry initiated the program „Library +” (Biblioteka +), which aims at transforming commune and rural libraries into centers for social and cultural life in local communities. The Book Institute (Instytut Książki) in Kraków is responsible for project implementation.
The National Library
The National Library is the central library of the state and one of the most important national cultural institutions. It is supervised by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. It plays the role of a big scientific library of humane profile, while being at the same time the main archive of national writing and the national center of bibliographic information about books, a significant scientific institution, and also an important methodology center for other libraries in Poland.
The letter of intent on the cooperation between the Information Society Development Foundation and the National Library was signed on June 17, 2008. It provides for cooperation on the Library Program in enhancing the informational and social role of rural libraries through supporting the system of public libraries in rural areas and increasing librarians' competencies.
The Polish Librarians Association
The Polish Librarians Association is an organization with almost 100 years of tradition, associating over 8500 librarians and professionals involved in library and information sciences. On March 1, 2009, the Polish Librarians Association and the Information Society Development Foundation signed a letter of intent expressing the will to cooperate. The parties have undertaken to provide mutual information and promotional support, and to joint action on behalf of library development. The Association is a Library Program Partner.
The Office of Electronic Communications (UKE)
The Office of Electronic Communications (UKE) is the national regulatory authority for the market of telecommunications and postal services. The UKE also supports the development of telecommunications services in Poland. On December 28, 2008, the President of the UKE and President of FRSI concluded a cooperation agreement. The parties will cooperate on developing access to ICT in Poland by, among other means, increasing access to the Internet in rural areas.
The TP Group
On August 6th, 2009, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the Ministry of Interior and Administration, TP Group and Information Society Development Foundation signed the Memorandum of Understanding to Launch a Program to Provide Polish Public Libraries with Internet Access. TP SA commited to provide all public libraries in Poland with free connection to the Internet for three years.
The Union of Rural Communes of the Republic of Poland
The Union of Rural Communes of the Republic of Poland established in 1993, is the largest national-scale organization of rural and rural-municipal communes, consisting of over 500 communes. The main purpose of the organization is to integrate local governments and resolve typical problems facing this environment. The Union operates on many planes: negotiations with the government, consulting the Parliament, exchanging experiences between members, as well as promoting economic and cultural development of rural communes. The Union's mission is to serve rural communities, in particular by focusing on developing local democracy, establishing conditions for local economic development, integrating communes and developing local government.
The letter of intent signed by the Information Society Development Foundation and the Union of Rural Communes of the Republic of Poland provides for cooperation on the Library Program by communicating information about the Program during meetings of Union members; helping the Foundation present its Program at events organized by the Union, and communicating the Foundation's activities addressed to public rural libraries on the Union’s website.
Grupa Onet.pl SA
Onet.pl i and the Information Society Development Foundation (FRS) have initiated technical and promotional cooperation in developing two initiatives: the social program available at www.przez-pokolenia.pl, designed to counteract digital exclusion of the elderly, and on the library modernization program implemented by FRSI. Onet.pl is the largest Polish web portal offering over 200 extensive topic-based services. Onet.pl is the most popular and most frequently visited internet portals in Poland, and one of the largest portals in Europe in terms of page views. Cooperation with the Library Program is one of Onet’s contributions to developing the information society.
